Well, it depends on that individual because art can be both taught/cultivated and also being born with it but as long as there is motivation to strive and having a sense of eagerness in art, you will definitely be successful in that field. With motivation, anything is possible.
Art can be taught/cultivated. If there is passion, dedication and hard work toward art, anyone can produce great art pieces (even better than the people who are born with the talent). Even people who are born with it won't be able to develop their art talents if they don't have the passion or aren't taught/cultivated.
You both raise some interesting points given your views do you think then that some people are better then others. Could this come down to how our brains work, we know that each one of us is very different. Some are better at maths then arts, why do think this is?
I wonder if the environment one is born into matters. Models of excellence could grow passion and awareness. What parents value and what they are interested in would also be a factor in how young minds and talents are nourished. I imagine there are lots of artists who had parents with little creative talent to counter this string of thinking?
I agree with Ellen, in that if the aspiring artist has the passion and dedication in the arts, he or she will eventually learn the artistic skills he is passionate about. Although, the time it takes for different people to learn these artistic skills differ, for some it may come naturally while some may take longer than others. However, I do not believe there is a limit where anyone can reach that makes them incapable of learning how to create art (on all levels).
I like the conversation but in today's world what is good art and how can judge or assess if some one is better than anyone else. We live in a world where an idea can be art. How does this relate to the original question? What impact does this have?
Art is in everyone. It is individual who develop this skill. We all have different taste. There is no good or bad category. The artwork can affect us by how is it presented for example Kevin's landscape, everyone just look at it sees 2 rocks but after he told us the story of the to rocks everyones opinion changed or most people. We just like it or not.
I think Mr. Coles has made an interesting point but I don't necessarily agree with it. To some extent, yes, environment could be a major factor that affects one's ability and talent. However, this is not always the case. For example, Sally and I have both grew up in the same environment, but Sally is better at math than arts and I am better at arts than math. I think it is the innate talent that makes it possible for an individual to excel in a specific subject area and it all has to do with the theory of left-brain or right-brain dominance. More opportunities and encouragement are preceded when early precocity is encountered. Nonetheless, I still believe that people can accomplish a high level skill of art through intensive and lengthy training, accompanied by passion and effort.
I believe everyone is born with certain abilities. Everyone is good at something and everyone can learn new abilities or just improve the ability which they are born with. Looking at art that means that some people are naturally better than others in terms of creating visual art. Of course there are many areas of visual arts, which means that the diversity of abilities are almost infinitive.
An example of my theory is looking at singing: Some people are just born with an incredible voice, they are naturally talented. AND Some people like singing, but might not be as good at it. They are training their voices by singing alot. They end up being good singers too, but always have to exercise.
Art today is neither taught/cultivated or born with. In the old days, art could be created and acknowledged if you had learned the skills to do so because they had specific types of art, which was to draw portraits of people. The issue now is that there are so many people who are capable of mocking such styles of art. Art today has to be new, refreshing and creative. Art is something that in the mind, and this imagination comes from experiences and creativity but making it real is a whole other story for you need the techniques of making the artwork mental to physical. The planning simply cannot be taught, but the techniques to make it happen can. Art is not the process but the final product. Art cannot be something to be born with because art is formed by imagination and that imagination is not there initially. We build it with experience. There is no nature in the way that we think because the way that we think is always influenced by our environment. I believe that imagination is nurture not nature.
Hi guys, have a read of this article it posses some very interesting ideas and notions about who decides who the artists are. I would really like to know your thoughts and get some information and discussion based on the ways of knowing. Look forward to hearing your response.
Hi all, so here is a quick question for you all, I would like you to answer this question...Why is Visual Arts so important to you? Think about the different ways of knowing to form the answer.
