How can a theme/narrative/concept develop your understanding of creating personally relevant artwork?

Comments

  1. Having a theme/narrative/concept gives the artist direction of what they want their artwork to be about. This makes sure that all of the artworks would remain under the artist's umbrella of interests. Simply by keeping the ideas under topics of interest, it creates a personal connection to the artist. The important part is to create a theme that is broad enough as well as specific enough to have a main focus but there is remaining space for new ideas coming in within the branch of the main idea.

  5. A theme is like a light in a dark alley acting as a guide for the artist. Having a theme for me is a way to express the messages i want to send out and also show my personality. With artwork that have a theme in it, will help the audience know what kind of person I am as the artwork reflects the artist itself. By having a theme, I was able to focus more on one topic and brainstorm the different approaches I can make with that one theme which helps me have a greater understanding of that one topic.

  7. You this is really good but you are talking about this in the past tense and it needs to be something that is constant and in the moment. By the same token you dont want your theme to narrow your work but give it purpose and function.

  8. A Theme in my opinion, is a pathway or a method for the artist to follow and obey what the theme has to offer. It is created to express the message or consist of a meaning that needs to showed or displayed specifically to the targeted audience in order for them to receive the message or understand the hidden meaning. Although a theme needs to be in an artwork, it still consists of a concept where the concept has a connection with the artist so that the artwork itself has a relationship with the artist and also connects with it's targeted audience at the same time as well. Furthermore, a theme is a powerful tool in terms of not just expressing the meaning or the message being hidden inside the artwork but also gives a sense of connection and relationship between the targeted audience and the artist.

  9. Choosing a theme/narrative/concept is difficult for many people, often due to lack of inspiration or inability to generate more than two or three ideas for the topic. In order to produce more meaningful art pieces, a theme/narrative/concept should be personally relevant, whether it is an issue, an object, an activity etc,. If the artist puts no emotion towards his/her artwork, decision-making process would be difficult due to lack of motivation and the artwork itself would be purposeless with no specific message. Making art about what you care about the most helps you to become a real artist.

  10. A theme/narrative/concept acts as a basis for artists to plan and start the art pieces. The artists uses a theme to focus his message that he plans on conveying to the audience. Hence, when an artist is setting out to have a strong message is relevant to themselves, it will become an easier task as well as having a better result. Personally having a theme helps to give direction to my own work but firstly and importantly gives me a foundation and starting point on where to start. At the same time it further gives me confidence that the work I will producing with my theme has a message that is personally relevant to me.
